As a result of the vote, Tavila Akimova, an expert at the Center of Excellence of the AEO “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools”, was elected to the Executive Committee for the first time from Kazakhstan. The Center of Excellence's entry into the World Association of Lesson Studies in 2015 made it possible to implement the Lesson Study Kazakhstan project. This project became the basis for the formation of professional research communities of teachers in the country and served as a large-scale platform for the exchange of experience.
In addition, over the past few years, the Center has been actively promoting Kazakhstan's Lesson Study experience internationally and training foreign teachers. In 2024, for the first time in WALS history, the organisation's conference was held in the post-Soviet space – in Kazakhstan, where experts and researchers from around the world gathered.
It should be noted that the election of Kazakhstan's representative to the Executive Committee not only confirms the country's significant role in the global Lesson Study movement but also opens up opportunities to participate in shaping the global agenda for the development of Lesson Study. In addition, the Center's specialists have been members of the WALS Expert Council for more than ten years.
