WALS
In 2015, the Republic of Kazakhstan, represented by the Center of Excellence, was recognized as the official 18th member of the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS). The activities of this organization are intended to promote research and practice focused on Lesson Study, with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning. WALS provides a platform for research collaboration, mutual assistance and information exchange among its members. WALS is comprised of educational researchers and educators committed to improving the quality of learning. Trainers of the Center of Excellence are active members of the association since 2014. They annually present the results of their Lesson Study work at international conferences and share their experiences with colleagues from around the world.
In 2023 in Zwolle, Netherlands, Kazakhstan's Center of Excellence officially accepted the global baton of the World Association of Lesson Studies. WALS President Catherine Lewis and CoE Director Zhanbota Kabdykarimova signed an agreement, according to which for the first time in history the international conference of the World Association of Lesson Studies will be held in the post-
Soviet space – in Astana In late September, the strategic theme - "Lesson studies: aspiring to better Learning and Teaching" - for five days will bring together world-renowned experts, scientists, practising teachers, and doctoral students from more than 40 countries. Already today among the participants of WALS 2024 are Great Britain, Singapore, Japan, Finland, Malaysia, Austria, China, the United States of America, Hong Kong, and Turkey.
